THE ACTUAL HISTORY.

Today, August 29, Mr. D.K. Patel’s birthday.
First of all I wish him a very happy birthday and beseech his blessings for the rest of my life.
I would like to share an unforgettable history on this page. It was, not only an unforgettable history but also an untold one.

I was in my eleventh standard I suppose. One of our antique building was under de-construction for a new construction. First time, we were hearing a name called ‘Mr. D.k. Patel’ who was donating to build a new building for visually challenged pupils. Our headmaster was praising about his generosity in our school annual day function. Our music sir had composed a song about him, which was sung by our orchestra troop on that day. We’ve never met Mr. Patel as of then. One day, I got a chance to meet him in person.

My initial meeting was indeed an unpredicted one with the founder of ‘the help the blind foundation’ Mr. D.K. Patel. It was 2008 I suppose. I was in my twelfth standard. As usual, we headed to our dining hall to have our lunch. Nearly nine to ten tables were allotted for blind people I don’t remember exactly. We were asked to occupy the first table as we were the senior most students. We were supplied unusual lunch. We were little shocked. Soon, the information reached our ears that the donor of our new building was going to dine with us. Only, our table was served sumptuous lunch with special items. Mr. Patel entered the dining hall and sat against me. The level of hospitality had reached its peak. We felt pity on other tables. If we had eight more Patels, everybody would have been served special lunch on that day I thought. We were asked to talk to him while eating. He appreciated the food. I praised him. We didn’t know what to talk. We were not very fluent in English. He was conversing with us. We were blabbering with him.
The lunch had come to an end. We had come to the entrance. He asked me to show the headmaster’s room and we were strolling towards it.

We were preparing for our public exam. Our class teacher Mr. Irudhayaraj asked us to take our higher education under the sponsorship of Mr. Patel. He said he would request him for that. We didn’t want to get any sponsor in the beginning as we were strange to him. Sponsoring for a school was completely different from sponsoring an individual. Actually Mr. Patel wanted to construct a college specifically for blind pupils. It can’t be a good option we said to our class teacher. He also suggested the same. “This is my last year in service. I wish to take this opportunity to help my final batch. Patel is a nice person who is willing to help our society. Fortunately, he has become a donor for this building. He wants to do more it seems. Let him start with you. I will be happy if you agree with this.”
Our class teacher Mr. Irudhayaraj has a special quality which I’ve never come across with any other teacher. He always asked the opinion from his class students before taking any further decision. We know very well that we are nothing in front of his experience yet, he respected his students very much and expected the same from his students also. As it was his last year in service, he wanted to do something special for his students. It was not a onetime call. Our class teacher Mr. Irudhayaraj once again asked us before proceeding with the management in this regard.
We reluctantly said yes as we had lot of confusion in our minds. He was on his process. We were on our studies. One day our teacher Mr. Irudhayaraj came and said that he had conversed with our headmaster the sponsorship for our higher education which would be sanctioned soon.
We passed in our public exam, left the school, and joined various new colleges. We started receiving scholarship from the organization called ‘the help the blind foundation.’ Then, the NGO started helping several blinds students all over India and Mr. Patel made it a world wide organization. Thus,
Mr. Irudhayaraj’s official service came to an end and Mr. Patel’s financial service began for visually challenged learners.
